Full website refresh for
the UK's leading tech scheme
Introduction
During my employment at Loft Digital, I spent much of my time working on the Techscheme website fixing bugs, adding small features, improving the user experience, and so on.
Later along the timeline they received funding for something I'd been desperate to action - a complete refresh and redesign of the site, top to bottom.
I was appointed lead designer and developer of the project, giving me complete control of the UX - an exciting challenge!
It was crucial to create a design and final product that was not only visually appealing but also user-friendly, intuitive, and optimised for different devices.
Solution
I began working collaboratively with the Techscheme team to produce some simple wireframes of the various user journeys, which then shifted into the creation of high-fidelity interactive mockups while also envisioning a soft 'rebrand' — typography, iconography, imagery refresh — as well as a smoother, more intuitive user experience.
The process worked really well; I would share the design iterations via Adobe XD, gather feedback, and make necessary revisions until the design was perfect. After that, I received a very excited thumbs-up from the team to go ahead with the beautiful new designs and begin translating them into a fully functioning, hand-coded responsive website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
This involved creating all pages from scratch, including adding all the necessary functionalities such as search bars, contact forms, interactive features, and so on. The website had to be fully responsive, which I tested on various devices to ensure smooth operation throughout.
Outcome
The outcome was a great success! The team at Techscheme was thrilled with the final product, taking the site from a tired, drab design to something fresh, new, bold, and enticing.
By utilising my skills as both a designer and developer, I was able to consistently work closely with the team throughout the entire end-to-end process, which I believe they really appreciated.
Ultimately, I was able to deliver a modern, user-friendly website that met all of their needs and exceeded their expectations.
